If you read my review of Boogeyman 2, you might remember that I gave it a good score. Yes, it was a cheesy horror movie, but it was very well done and enjoyable. I was excited to get in Boogeyman 3 with the hopes that it would be at least as good as the previous one was. Unfortunately, my hopes were totally dashed by the time the movie was over.

Boogeyman 3 is more of a sequel to Boogeyman than it is a sequel to Boogeyman 2. Like Boogeyman 2, it is set on a college campus. But before we get to the campus, we see one lone student, Audrey (Nikki Sanderson), at her dad's house. She has been given the daunting task of cleaning out the apartment after his supposed suicide. According to him though, the "Boogeyman" killed him and all of his patients that had died. When Audrey stumbles upon his journal, she sits down and reads it to learn the truth. As soon as she settles into bed, she is pulled under it by the Boogeyman.

Now we skip over to her college dorm room. Her friend Sarah (Erin Cahill) is on-air at the radio station. She's pretty well known across campus and helps a lot of people with psychological help, and who could possibly need more help than college students at finals time! Once she's back with the rest of their group, they are all discussing Audrey and whether or not she is ok and if she's dealing with her father's death. No one has heard from her. But other than that, they act like typical college freshmen. Honestly, this was a plus to the movie. I'm not used to seeing supposed college students actually acting like they are in college.

Anyway, later that night, Lindsey (Mimi Michaels) heads over to Kane's (Matt Rippy), leaving Sarah alone in her dorm. Suddenly Audrey shows back up at Sarah's room wearing her pajamas and carrying only the journal. She spreads the news that the Boogeyman is real, he killed her father, and now he's after her as well. Of course, Sarah doesn't believe her. She tries to calm her down and convince her to get some rest. Events will soon make Sarah a believer in the Boogeyman too. She does her best to convince the others that he is real, but in doing so, she's only making the problem worse. Will any of them survive?

For the most part, I was disappointed in the special effects. The Boogeyman himself was creepy looking. He reminded me of a grown up version of the chick from The Ring. There was also one death scene that was pretty interestingly done. Other than that though, the effects just weren't very believable. The blood looked more like Kool-Aid than blood most of the time. There are some special features and some deleted scenes for you to enjoy. Honestly, I found them more interesting than the movie was. I learned a lot of useless facts, like it is very hard to find a bong in Bulgaria. It was really interesting hearing the heavy accents on some of the actors in the special features. There was no trace of any accent on any of them in the film, so they all did a really good job of hiding them.

If you're just dying to see Boogeyman 3, I recommend you rent it. I can't see buying it for any reason.
