There is but one man that can make Garfield the cat look like an overachiever. One man alone can "romanticize laziness and overindulgence" in such as way as to be utterly hilarious, leaving the audience wondering whether he was some sort of comedy god (I wasn't wondering that) and wondering whether they would pass out before they could catch their breath. (I wasn't wondering that, either, but now I am.) There was only one tour by this amazing comedian in 2008. This tour was sold out, but the final performance took place in Austin, Texas. And that final show was videotaped to record the magnificence of that one artist. That recording was made into a single DVD called "King Baby." All this for but a single DVD... and I have it! (Now he's just rubbing it in!)

What? There's actually a lot of copies? Oh. Well, then here's why you should run out and get yourself one...

Jim Gaffigan is an awesome performer. He has a unique style of delivery and an interesting view on a lot of different things. One of the neat gimmicks that Gaffigan uses is the "voice of the audience" bit; when he says a joke or any statement intended to be funny, he will often follow it up with an imagined response or retort that might be said by someone in the audience that was offended by it or that simply "didn't get it." These are funny themselves, but also serve to make the audience more accepting of his jokes and get them to "go along with" bits longer. He's the perfect comedian; he heckles himself! I have driven five hours away before to see one of Gaffigan's performances and I would do it again. I was expecting that there might be some reused jokes in King Baby that I had seen in that performance, but most of the jokes seemed to be new. The few jokes that I had heard before were further developed and were very funny to watch.

Speaking of funny to watch, the special features included some mocumentary pieces on the making of the tour and the selection of the name. Now, mind you, the DVD was named "King Baby," but the tour was actually called "The Sexy Tour." There are some short advertisements and a featurette about how this name came to be, all centered around how Gaffigan was glad to see that people realized how sexy he was, while the network explains that they had pitched then "Unsexy Tour"... comedy ensues.

Also included are an extra half hour of stand-up not included in the Comedy Central Special, and over an hour of special features, including 3 episodes of Pale Force and 4 episodes of Our Massive Planet, along with two interviews. I love the guy and, quite frankly, the special features wore me out. I had to come back a second day to finish them up. That's just how massive they were.

If you're a Gaffigan fan, or if you just like good stand-up, I would definitely recommend King Baby. It's hilarious, as expected.
