The Uninvited is a brilliant adaptation of a Korean film called The Tale of Two Sisters. Directed by The Guard Brothers, the movie centers around troubled teenager Anna (Emily Browning, Lemony Snicket). Upon returning home from a stint in a sanitarium following a suicide attempt brought on by the untimely death of her ill mother in a fire, Anna finds that her mother's former nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks, The 40 Year Old Virgin) is now dad's new girlfriend. Convinced that Rachel had something to do with her mother's death, she teams up with her slightly older sister, Alex (Arielle Kebbel), to unearth the truth.

Anna finds herself plagued with ghostly hallucinations and she is certain that her mother is reaching out to her from beyond the grave to reveal the truth. Even her former boyfriend, Matt (Jesse Moss), seems to know something about the night of the fire, but Rachel won't leave them alone for a second so she can find out what. After some internet research, she and Alex are certain that Rachel is actually a child-killing nanny who was never caught, but Dad (David Strathairn, The Spiderwick Chronicles) won't hear any of it. When Rachel gets wind of the plot being cooked up against her, she is determined not to lose her foothold and threatens to call Anna's mental state into question with her doctor.

The final blow-out is quite amazing and intense and when all is finally revealed, you'll be sitting on your couch with your mouth hanging open. This movie was so good, I watched it again a few days later when the Blu-ray version came in. It definitely warrants a second viewing, just to pick up on everything going on that you don't know the first run through.

Emily Browning and Arielle Kebbel are fantastic in their roles, as are Elizabeth Banks and David Strathairn. All are completely believable and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Included as special features are a making-of and a nice handful of deleted scenes, which are definitely worth watching, plus an alternate ending which is really nothing more than a slightly extended scene.

Overall, I highly recommend The Uninvited. I absolutely loved it and it's a terrific thriller.
