After an undelivered phone message to Derek, Sharon decides to check out this temp for herself, and despite her husband's claims that she is plain, Sharon sees Lisa as anything but. The wife doesn't deter Lisa, however, and when she corners Derek in the men's bathroom at the company Christmas party (no spouses allowed!), Derek decides enough is enough. Sure, he should have told his wife immediately, but like a fool, he keeps the incident to himself. Only after Lisa tries again wearing next to nothing does he realize how disturbed she is. He firmly spurns her advances and tells his friend Ben of the incident, but again, not his wife. What a moron. When he decides to file a report with Human Resources, he discovers Lisa has already quit and decides his problem is solved. What he doesn't realize is that this is only a piece of Lisa's plan. When Lisa shows up at a company retreat, only to attempt suicide when he once again rejects her, Derek's problems have only just begun.
You'd think a sharp cookie like Detective Reese (Christine Lahti) would see through Lisa's crazy veneer of lies as she investigates the suicide attempt, but she actually believes Derek and Lisa were having an affair, as does Sharon, who kicks him out. Lisa leaves town, and as time passes, Derek finally begins to see an end to this nightmare. But when Lisa reappears, things finally come to a head, and the inevitable showdown between Sharon and Lisa is quite the visceral girl fight.
Special features are slim, but there's a piece on the work that went in to setting up the fight scene and that's worth watching, plus there's one on the cast and another on the costumes. While this movie was a pretty decent thriller and the acting was good, what I didn't like was the rampant stupidity of the characters. Poor Lisa is crazy as a bedbug, but she's hard to hate because she's such an interesting character. Derek is an idiot and makes mistake after mistake in not being honest with Sharon. Sharon blindly believes her husband is cheating on her, so it's hard to like her when she's doing that. The final blowout action scene was good and the movie is worth watching, but like I said, it's hard to pity stupid characters. If you like thrillers of this variety, you'll probably enjoy Obsessed. It's just hard not to want to slap Mr. and Mrs. Charles.
