Joe Dirt casts David Spade as a white trash guy working as a janitor at a radio station in L.A. who has spent his life looking for the family he lost as a young-un at the Grand Canyon. Fate smiles (or is that grimaces?) at Joe when he is spotted by a radio exec who thinks the resident shock-jock, Zander Kelly, (Dennis Miller) will enjoy mocking Joe on-air. After all, Joe is pretty funny looking with his oh-so-80's acid-washed jeans and his permanent mullet. You see, as a baby, he was born missing the top of his skull. Since it was gross looking, his mama put a mullet wig on him and it sort of grew onto his head. So Zander coaxes Joe to tell his story - as an 8 year old visiting the Grand Canyon, he was left there by his folks and sister - surely a mistake. If only he could remember his last name... but his family always called him Joe Dirt, so he didn't really know the actual family last name.

One day, he meets a lovely gal by the name of Brandy and they become the best of friends. Truth is, Brandy is in love with Joe, but he doesn't see himself worthy of being anything more than just her friend. Such is life. Joe and Brandy work for ages trying to find Joe's family and when they get some good leads, Joe heads across country to see what pans out. Meanwhile, Brandy is stuck back at home fending off the advances of local creep Robby (played perfectly by Kid Rock). In the meantime, as Joe tells his tale on the radio in L.A., people begin to fall in love with the guy and instead of mocking him as they did in the beginning, start to root for him to win Brandy and to find his folks.

As he reveals while talking on-air, his trek to find his parents led him to meet the most interesting people - Clem (Christopher Walken), who is secretly hiding from the mafia, Charlene (Rosanna Arquette), owner of a gator farm, Jill (Jaime Pressly), a hottie who could be Joe's sister, Kicking Wing, an Indian with no sense of what it takes to run a cool fireworks stand, and a deranged serial killer named Buffalo Bob. Many funny moments come from these interesting folks and their interactions with ol' Joe.

In the end, Joe finally finds out what happened with his parents, gets the girl and all of L.A. is cheering him on. Joe Dirt is an amusing comedy with a few laugh-out-loud moments. Although not the best to come from the team of Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo, it's definitely worth a watch, even if they do bag on my hometown of Baton Rouge. We don't talk like that, people!
