JAG: The Ninth Season ended in the middle of a two part episode, typical for JAG. JAG: The Tenth and Final Season picks up right there with Mac returning home to a trashed apartment. Simon (Ed Quinn) is there to "save her life." There's a hitman after her, a very good one! Of course, this is all going to have something to do with Webb. Did I mention that Mac finally gets to meet Webb's mother, Porter Webb (Claudette Nevins)?
Until they find a replacement, Turner (Scott Lawrence) is the acting JAG. As we know, Turner hasn't always gotten along with several of the staff in the past. How is he going to handle being in charge? He doesn't get to stay in charge long, though. The new JAG appointment is a marine, for the first time in a century. Major General Gordon Cresswell (David Andrews) is appointed to be the new JAG. Given that he is a Marine, I would think Mac would be happiest about it, but will a past conflict cause problems between them? I like the new JAG personally. He's quite a bit different from Chegwidden, but sometimes change is good.
Bud (Patrick Labyorteaux) is still the character that provides the most humor for me. When he says things like "already off on the wrong foot, and I only have one," I couldn't help but to laugh. Harriet (Karri Turner) has left JAG to be a full time mom, but she still gets seen every now and then. They're still the best couple I've seen. I think one of the oddest cases of the season is the polygamist that Bud has to defend. He has 4 wives, including a midget. Of course, everything isn't always perfect for Bud. He seems to have the worst luck of anyone. He even gets arrested! Can you imagine a less likely person to be arrested?
Jennifer Coates (Zoe McLellan) has finally been added to the opening credits, making her a permanent part of the cast. I really like Coates. She's always happy and upbeat no matter what. Her past hasn't always been so rosy though, and it's going to come back to haunt her this season! Harm's (David James Elliott) adopted daughter Mattie was Coates's roommate last season. Mattie (Hallee Hirsh) has finally reconciled with her father (is there anything Harm can't fix?) and moves home with him. Of course, she still visits Harm and Coates quite frequently.
As for Harm, it seems like he's finally grown up. Mattie has made a big difference in his life, as have Coates and the rest of the JAG staff. Are he and Mac finally grown up enough to admit how they feel about each other once and for all? Given that this is the final season, if it doesn't happen now, it never will.
Whenever you have the final season of a long series, the big question always comes down to "does the series end well?" Personally, I think that they did a great job wrapping up the series and ending it very well. There were no major threads left hanging and it truly feels like a happy ending to a long running series. There's only one special feature on the set and it is very short, but sweet. If you're a long time JAG fan, you definitely need to pick up JAG: The Tenth and Final Season today!
