  • Behind the Scenes with Sinbad

It's been a while since Sinbad has graced the stage in a TV special, and while he has still been on the road, those fans of his that haven't had a chance to go to one of his shows in person have been missing out. Well Sinbad: Where U Been? is just what those fans have been waiting for.

I found myself laughing throughout the show as Sinbad talked about everything from President Obama to where he has been the past decade to helping the audience with their relationships.

Probably the funniest segment of the show was his improvisational audience Q&A where he asked both men and women what they liked least about the opposite sex. Though, most of this discussion was directed towards the women to help explain men. Everything from snoring, to men leaving clothes around the house, to how marriage and kids changes the couple's sex life is touched on in this part of the show. Though that isn't the only time Sinbad doles out advice to couples. He brings up older men dating young women, and how that is bad for the men's health, as well as men going out to strip clubs. After the Q&A session, Sinbad focuses on kids, A.D.D. and mothers trying to look as young as their daughters. Sinbad does a fairly good job changing subjects as he ends up covering a wide range of topics like immigration, working retail, adrenaline junkies and many of the differences between being 53 and 17.

The evening wasn't all jokes though; the show ended with Sinbad taking up the guitar alongside various funk musicians to entertain the crowd with a medley of funk songs. While a fun experience, this really didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the show, and I would have preferred a few more jokes rather than this musical segment. The band performs "Let's Get It On," "Ol' School," "Hollywood Swinging," and "Word Up."

Sinbad: Where U Been?'s only special feature was an amusing behind-the-scenes segment that mainly focuses on Sinbad learning to play various instruments so he can work in the show's finale. This featurette also interviews the various band members that play alongside him and taught him the necessary skills. While amusing, this particular special feature really didn't seem to add anything extra to the overall package.

Sinbad has been a comedic force for a long time, and while he hadn't put out any specials in a while, it's good to see that he can still put on a great show. Where U Been? is 90 minutes of entertainment, especially if you like funk music, since that's what the last 15 minutes of the show is all about.
