Alvin and the Chipmunks have been entertaining audiences for 50 years now. I know, I personally started watching them during the 80's years when the Chipettes were first introduced. During the 50 years, they've undergone a few changes, but they're still the same loveable little wildlife. Ever since they have been around, the chipmunks have thrilled audiences of all ages. In their new movie, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, the guys and gals continue their longstanding tradition of making people laugh!

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel opens with the boys performing a concern in Paris, France. Up to his usual antics, Alvin (Justin Long) manages to let a huge prop loose which smacks into Dave (Jason Lee) and propels him across the stage. Sustaining severe injuries, Dave has to remain in Paris for a while. He sends the boys home though, to be supervised by Aunt Jackie (Kathryn Joosten). He tells them that they will even have to go to school, and he's already enrolled them. When they land in L.A. though, they find out that Jackie's grandson Toby (Zachary Levi, Chuck) is also going to be staying with them until he figures out what to do with his life. Toby is essentially a man who never matured past 15. He spends literally every waking minute playing videogames and has no clue what he wants to do with his life. He's also a bit like Alvin and accident prone, which causes Aunt Jackie to also be hospitalized, leaving Toby solely in charge of the boys. As you can imagine, this is worse than leaving Alvin in charge!

As if their unstable home life wasn't enough trouble, the boys are going to have to deal with High School! High school is bad enough when you're a normal kid, but when you're only 8 inches tall, it's a real nightmare just to get around. Even though they're rock stars, that's not going to prevent them from being picked on by bullies. Just when they're starting to get the hang of things, they're really thrown for a loop when the Chipettes enter the picture! The Chipettes are female counterparts of the chipmunks. Brittany (Christina Applegate) is the counterpart to Alvin, Jeanette (Anna Faris) is Simon's (Matthew Gray Gubler) match and cuddly little Eleanor (Amy Poehler) pairs up to sweet Theodore (Jesse McCartney). But, when the Chipettes got to L.A., they were taken in by the Chipmunk's ex-manager Ian (David Cross). Ian is determined to use them to get himself back to the top and bring the Chipmunks down! Will the boys be able to beat the enemy and win the girls? The battles that ensue are pure comedy gold!

There are plenty of special features to add to your entertainment value, a whole disc full of them. There are featurettes and music videos both. I personally enjoyed all of the featurettes. The Munking History is a really great documentary on the history of the Chipmunks and their rise to fame. Meet the Chipettes gives the gals their own story time. In Music Mania, you get to hear a bit about the up and coming bands and singers that you see in the movie. My personal favorite though is "The Chipmunks: Behind the Squeaking." It's a fake documentary done in the style of a VH1 "Behind the Music" episode. It is absolutely hilarious to hear them treated as if they're real actors and what their co-stars have to say about them! There are several more featurettes and the music videos to watch as well.

A lot of "kid" movies are something that the adults suffer through just to make their kids happy. We had 4 adults and no kids when we were watching Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and we all laughed and loved it. You don't have to have kids around to get the humor, but yet it's great for kids as well. I highly recommend this family fun comedy to everyone!
