As you can probably guess, Vampires Suck is a spoof of the current vampire movies and shows (plus a few non-vampire things), but mostly it follows the plot of the Twilight saga. If you haven't seen the Twilight saga movies yet, don't worry. Vampires Suck really isn't going to ruin the plot of them for you.
Becca Crane (Jenn Proske) finds herself now living with her father, Frank Crane (Diedrich Bader), the town sheriff, in a small town in Washington. This means that she's the new student at school. No one likes being the new kid, but Becca finds herself a group to hang out with. Outside of school, there's Jacob White (Chris Riggi). He and Becca used to play together when they were kids, but she hasn't seen him since. Jacob's madly in love with Becca and would do anything to be with her. He also happens to be a werewolf. Then there's Edward Sullen (Matt Lanter). He's the mysterious boy at school. His family sticks to themselves, probably because they're vampires. Becca obviously has a thing for attracting the bad boys!
Of course, hanging out with the bad boys is always dangerous. Becca has to deal with rival vampires hunting them, severe boy angst (what else would you expect from someone with the last name of Sullen), and her own acting out as well. You know it's really shocking anyone survives being a teenager. Anyway, Becca and Edward will have to deal with a mysterious vampire tribunal at their senior prom. With a prom theme of "Vampires," what else would you expect?
The thing that impresses me most in Vampires Suck isn't really the story. I mean it's a spoof movie, there's not much of a plot. I was most impressed with how well the actors spoofed the people that they were playing. Jenn Proske, in particular, must have watched Twilight at least a few times to get the mannerisms of Bella down so perfectly, with just enough exaggeration to make it funny. I was impressed that Vampires Suck is her first movie. I'm really hoping that we get to see her in a more serious role sometime.
There are two versions of the film for you to choose from, the theatrical version (rated PG-13) and the unrated version. The DVD also has a few additional features. I can see why all the deleted scenes were cut. They really didn't add anything to the movie. The Gag Reel was really quite funny! The theatrical trailer and quite a few previews are available as well.
If you like spoof movies, I highly recommend you go check out Vampires Suck. We had 4 people watching and all 4 of us were laughing continually. It's not a serious movie, but it's not meant to be. It's a silly comedy that will make you laugh!
