Spongebob Squarepants: Legends of Bikini Bottom is a collection of six new episodes, each one featuring a different odd myth or creature of Bikini Bottom.

The collection starts off with Patrick befriending a massive sea monster born of toxic waste and barnacles. Patrick and this creature become quick friends, and that's probably because he has finally found someone who rivals him in intelligence, well, a lack of it anyway. Chaos ensues though when Patrick tries to bring the massive creature into the city to help him make more friends.

In "Welcome To The Bikini Bottom Triangle," a string of missing items leads Patrick, Spongebob and Mr. Krabs to a land filled with everything everyone has ever lost in the city ... basically a landfill. This particular dump is controlled by a collection of mermaids though, and it will take some fancy thinking in order to figure out a way to get back to Bikini Bottom. In other words, it could very well be impossible.

"The Main Drain" starts with Mr. Krabs telling Spongebob and Patrick about two boys who found a drain in the middle of the sea and drained all of Bikini Bottom away. Naturally, the duo set off on a mission to find this drain plug in order to protect it. The big reveal comes when we find out who the two kids were.

"Trenchbillies" was my least favorite of the bunch, and it just didn't have the same punch of the rest of the series, much less the great episodes included in the rest of this DVD. Here, the two main characters get sucked into a trench where they run into a band of hicks and have to fight for their lives. Well, maybe fight is too strong a word. The trenchbillies throw a series of challenges their way, and if they fail... well, let's just say it won't end well.

"Sponge-Cano" has an underwater volcano erupting near Bikini Bottom. As the city begins to panic, they learn that the only way to stop the impending disaster is to sacrifice the city's most annoyed citizen. Naturally, they turn to Squidward who frequently proclaims his dissatisfaction with everyone.

The collection wraps up with "The Curse of the Hex" where a Hag Fish slithers into the Krabby Patty but when she doesn't have enough to pay for a patty and is shunned from the store, she puts a hex on the restaurant. As a result, a sudden drop in customers causes Mr. Krabs to start looking for a way to break the hex.

Even though Spongebob Squarepants: Legends of Bikini Bottom has quite a few good episodes in it, it still manages to sweeten the pot with several amusing special features. Chief among these is a behind-the-scenes featurette that shows the various voice actors and how they do their job, complete with segments of a table read.

The rest of the special features include promotional material for the DVD in the form of animated shorts. These include one about what to do when encountering a legendary creature, one about new dance moves and one about Spongebob himself.

Spongebob always offers a certain kind of "turn off your brain" entertainment, and this collection of episodes fits right in with the rest of the series. Almost all of the episodes are fun to watch, and even the ones I found less enjoyable were still amusing. This particular DVD collection is a must-have for any young viewer who loves the yellow square character.
