Paul has a grudge against his neighbors, since they never supported him during his trial and incarceration, especially since Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris) actually faked her own death and framed him for the murder. Much to the surprise of his neighbors, Paul comes back with a little wife in tow, Beth Young (Emily Bergl) and while she seems very meek and mild, she has an ulterior motive for being with Paul.
When Paul tries to ruin Wisteria by buying up a bunch of houses and opening a halfway house for ex-cons, a riot occurs and Susan gets trampled, losing a kidney. As she and Mike struggle to find a donor, no one is more surprised when Beth is a match and donates her kidney... in a most unusual way.
Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant) get a surprise when Lynette's old college pal Renee (Vanessa Williams) comes for a visit and, on the heels of her marriage breaking up, decides to move onto Wisteria permanently. She and Lynette are rivals, as well as friends, but they end up starting an interior design business together. Things get a little shaky when a long-hidden secret between Renee and Tom is revealed. Tom gets offered a high-powered and high-paying job as a CFO and he takes it, finally bringing the Scavo family some serious prosperity, but can he and Lynette weather the storms that this brings to their marriage?
Bree (Marcia Cross) is feeling both happy and sad when her divorce to Orson (Kyle Maclachlan) finally comes through and she has her eye on the hot young contractor remodeling her house. Keith (Brian Austin Green) returns her feelings, but the two aren't as compatible as she'd like and the 17 year age difference is a bone of contention with Keith's parents (John Schneider and Nancy Travis). When the issue of kids comes up, Keith decides to forego his dreams of a family because he is in love with Bree, but when a child he never knew existed comes into the picture, things get complicated.
Gabby (Eva Longoria) and Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) get quite a shock when they find out that Juanita and their actual infant daughter were switched at birth. When they are reunited with their real child, Grace is a bratty carbon copy of Gabby, but Gabby couldn't love her more. When Grace's family has to go on the run due to immigration issues, Gabby has a hard time dealing with the loss and carries around a doll that looks like her, much to Juanita and Carlos' chagrin. Things get even worse when Gabby's stepfather, Alejandro (Tony Plana, Ugly Betty), shows back up. Gabby thought he was dead, but now he is back to torment her, having molested her as a young girl. During a dinner party in the season finale, things escalate with Alejandro, ending in the housewives doing what they do best, covering up a dark secret.
Special features are fun and include a blooper reel, a hefty serving of deleted scenes, a featurette where the cast try to answer trivia questions from the show's storylines over the years and finally, a retrospective with some of the kids who have essentially grown up on the show. It's a fun featurette, but one I would have expected to see on next year's release, since it will be the final season. Nevertheless, I enjoyed all of the special features.
Desperate Housewives: The Complete Seventh Season serves up plenty of juicy storylines filled with murder, mayhem, naughty deeds and the requisite desperation. I've barely touched the tip of the iceberg as to what happens in this season, but that is for you to discover for yourself. If you've been following the show, this season won't disappoint. It's not a good place to start, by any means, since the show is going on eight years, but the writing is clever, the characters are fun and the show is just an all-around good time. It's one of my guilty pleasures.
