Pete and Violet get married, turning them into a real family. Pete and Violet may be married and Cooper and Charlotte are together, but that doesn't mean that Cooper and Violet stop talking non-stop. What do you do when your significant other has a best friend other than you? To help her get past things, Violet writes a book detailing her experiences when she was attacked by Katie (Amanda Foreman). Most are supportive, but Pete isn't excited about the idea of telling her story to the world. Of course, when they read the book, no one is really happy with how they are portrayed. Addison finds out that her parents split up because her mom is a lesbian. Now she's got to save her mom's partner's life! After she does that, she's got to plan their wedding as well. Addison isn't happy about it, simply because it's her mother. Sometimes things just don't go how we want them to, though. Addison and Sam finally get to be together. Naomi (Audra McDonald) says that she accepts it, as long as they'll just support her plan to merge the clinics. But that's not something that you can just be fine with quickly, your best friend and your ex-husband together, especially when you just became a grandmother a lot younger than you expected. Naomi is going to go through a lot this season and makes several big decisions at the end of it.
Addison's ex-husband Derek Shepherd's sister, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), joins the team and I really like her. She's arrogant and knows how great she is, but it's all to hide emotional insecurities. She really is awesome at her job, but I don't always agree with some of the choices that she makes. She sees things a bit too black and white and forgets to take into account the human feelings. Amelia has her own issue though, and shockingly becomes really close to Charlotte. Charlotte gets attacked, raped, and badly bruised and beaten. Afterwards she doesn't want sex, which for Charlotte is quite shocking. Cooper has to figure out how to help her and get her back to herself. When she finally goes to therapy, to a doctor that Sheldon (Brian Benben) says is the best, she tells the doc that she doesn't need him in her head, so he just gives her anti-depressants for the next 5 months. Somehow I really hope that he's doing that to get through to her in a different way. Unfortunately, he's just lost his way and now believes that drugs are always the solution. Sheldon's going to have to help his friend, at Charlotte's request. Charlotte really grows a lot this season emotionally and as a person.
There are a few special features available on the DVD as well. "An Inside Look: The Violation of Charlotte King" is probably the most powerful as it deals with the very real issue of rape and how the survivors manage to move on and continue to live their lives. There are also Deleted Scenes and then Bloopers that were quite amusing. Private Practice continues to be an amazing drama that tackles real life issues along with providing an entertaining storyline.
