Starting on the Sherwoods, Denise gets to meet Jeremy's fiancée, Tonya, without him there. She's not sure about the relationship since she and Jeremy have only known each other 4 weeks. They really don't get off on the right foot and just don't click. Frank convinces Denise to give her a chance though, as his mother didn't like Denise at first either. When Tonya tells Denise there's something wrong with the baby Molly, Denise gets really upset, but ends up having to rush Molly to the hospital that night. She decides that she really was being too hard on Tonya and really comes to like her. After a very emotional trauma, the Sherwoods are going to need everyone's support.
Roxy (Sally Pressman) is dealing with a teenager as T.J. (Luke Bartelme) is now 12. He's grown a lot and is acting like a typical teen who doesn't want to hang out with his brother, Finn. T.J.'s really changing and needs attention. Let's just hope that he grows out of it quickly! Life isn't easy for any of them with Trevor (Drew Fuller) being deployed for so long. Roxy has always been self-sufficient, but now she is really becoming a business woman, especially after she joins in partnership to open a truck stop! Trevor isn't happy about all this because what will happen if he gets transferred? I really wish Trevor had been in the season more. We mostly only see him when he's on the phone with Roxy, at least until near the end of the season.
Roland (Sterling K. Brown) has Joan (Wendy Davis) home, but she gets her new assignment soon. She is debating on leaving the force, but when they promote her to Garrison Commander in charge of Fort Marshall, she decides to stay in. She won't have to deploy, but that doesn't mean that her life is going to be any less hectic though! Can they find time for a child? They end up making a decision that is truly a wonderful thing to do.
Pamela (Brigid Brannagh) is done with her probation period and now has her own car. But she gets big news when she gets the job with Atlanta PD. She doesn't know if she wants to take it and then she's even more confused when her partner Boone (Lee Tergesen) asks her to stay in Charleston with him. Then Chase (Jeremy Davidson) decides to leave Delta, even if Pam isn't coming back to him, which really makes her choice hard! The kids would really like it if their parents got back together.
Claudia Joy (Kim Delaney) has Emmalin (Katelyn Pippy) going to college and Michael (Brian McNamara) deployed and she's still in law school. When she graduates from law school, no one can make it to the ceremony. She gets a job offer from her professor and decides to take it. Like everyone else, Claudia Joy is going to have to deal with a lot this season, but since she's always the strong one, she keeps it all inside, which makes it even rougher on her. Michael's career takes a downward swing and continues to go downhill. If he's not careful, he could lose everything. Emmalin also has bad news for the family.
The army wives can pull anything off, including a last minute wedding in the middle of a storm where everything keeps going wrong and they only make it better! They just have to stick together and support each other. When the unit comes home from Afghanistan, things are totally changed around for some, and eventually for the better for all. Unfortunately, the end of Season Five brings a huge change for them all and I'm really not sure how this is going to play out for a new season. I'm guessing they ended it that way in case the show wasn't renewed, but it definitely gives it a final feeling and I liked the way that the ended it at a ball, just like the series originally opened.
The DVD also has quite a lot of special features to enjoy as well. I really liked the deleted scenes, just because I like to see what was cut and try to guess why. Army Wives is not only a wonderful drama, but also makes it very clear how real war can be. The show does an amazing job of really hitting home with the reality of what our soldiers and their families go through on a day to day basis. You will laugh along with their antics and you can bet that even the strongest of you will cry at some point over the tragedies. Army Wives has continued to get better season after season and Army Wives: The Complete Fifth Season is the best one yet. I recommend that you all go pick up Army Wives today as it is one of the most powerful and realistic dramas on television today.
