The show starts with Margo Rey, White's wife and singer-songwriter, performing the Star Spangled Banner for the audience. Once she leaves the stage, White appears discussing the purpose of the show and goes through about 10 minutes of stand-up covering everything from Tiger Woods to exercising and his dog.
As the evening progressed, several comedians took the stage, as well as a few musical performances. Rey would take the stage a second time in order to sing "Let the Rain," and John Oates of Hall & Oates also performed. The musical acts culminated with Rascal Flatts performing for almost 10 minutes.
When White left the stage after his stand-up segment, he introduced Latino comedian Alex Reymundo. Reymundo talked about his family and how he married into some Kentucky hillbillies. He talks about the cultural differences, meeting his in-laws and even their kids which he calls "Hickspanics." Reymundo is followed by Robert Hawkins, a former military man who has served his time in the Persian Gulf. After a quick statement about bringing the troops back home, Hawkins went on to talk about his baldness and then pleasing one's self.
Hawkins gave way to Vic Henely who talked about his time on the road and listening to AM radio, more specifically NASCAR on the radio. The next comedian was Kathleen Madigan who focused a lot on her time doing USO shows in Afghanistan. She mentioned talking to female Marines and their mission to talk to Taliban-controlled women about civil rights. She goes on to talk about going on a cruise, the South and her home state of Missouri.
The evening continued with comedian Tim Wilson who played a song about the age limits on everything from drinking, smoking, to joining the Army, but ended his bit talking about the various types of Southern accents. Wilson was followed by Lewis Black who mostly spoke of a show he did where he followed country singer Vince Gill.
Along with the lengthy show, Ron White's Comedy Salute to the Troops also comes with an additional 12 minutes of footage showing a few more bits from the various comedic performers. While not a whole lot in the way of special features, it is still a nice bit of bonus.
While the show itself is good and a lot of fun, it's hard to warrant the purchase of the DVD itself. That is, if it weren't for the little notice on the back of the box that says, "All net proceeds benefit America's injured military via the certified charity, Armed Forces Foundation." So every purchase of this DVD will find a bit of money going towards a good charity. If you find this a good cause, and the acts in the show catch your eye, then buying the DVD seems like a good way to go.
