The Smurfs live in a happy place in an enchanted forest. They love their happy little town and their happy life. Everyone has a job and, for the most part, they all get along smurfingly. It's time for the Blue Moon, so they're getting ready for the Festival of the Blue Moon. The one problem that plagues the smurfs is their enemy, Gargamel (Hank Azaria) and his cat, Azarael. Gargamel is always trying to figure out how to capture the Smurfs. When Clumsy goes into the forest to get some smurfroot and is chased by Gargamel, he makes the mistake of leading Gargamel and Azarael through the magic barrier of Smurf village. While fleeing the village, Clumsy goes the wrong way and heads toward the Forbidden Falls. Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Grouchy, and Gutsy follow him and they're all sucked into the vortex that is opened because of the Blue Moon. They are dumped out into our world. To make matters worse, Gargamel and Azarael follow. The Smurfs run and Gargamel sets up house in Belvedere Castle in Central Park.

Patrick Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris) has just been promoted to VP of Marketing at a cosmetics firm. The Smurfs end up hitching a ride home with him. Needless to say he and his pregnant wife, Grace (Jayma Mays) are a bit freaked out by them at first. I love the scene where they first meet the Smurfs and Patrick ends up hogtied. Grace loves them, but Patrick doubts they're real at first. The Smurfs need to recreate the Blue Moon to get home. The first order of business is to find a stargazer to check the stars and find the rest of the things that Papa needs. I love the hunt for the stargazer. The Smurfs running loose in FAO Schwartz is hilarious. Of course, Smurfette is going to go shopping! Gargamel is always there to ruin the fun, though. Luckily for the Smurfs, Patrick and Grace are great friends and are there to help them. Gargamel gets carted off to jail, not that jail can stop him for long. The Smurfs have got to finish the spell and get home before Gargamel gets them or all is lost.

In addition to the movie, the DVD has several special features to entertain you. There's a "Find the Smurfs" game to play, comic book scenes, music montage, and more features that are all quite amusing. You might just learn some new things from them. I loved The Smurfs cartoon as a kid. It was entertaining and uplifting at the same time. I love The Smurfs movie as well, for the exact same reason. It's a great movie for the whole family to enjoy. You'll laugh hysterically, but in the end, you're left feeling better about everything. I highly recommend that you all check it out today.
