The season starts off with the ISIS crew heading to the Swiss Alps in order to protect the daughter of a German dignitary. While everyone expects Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) to make the moves on the not-quite-legal girl, he does everything he can to stay away, but still protect, the client. Too bad for him; she seems to be into older men and no matter what he tells everyone else, they will not believe that she is the one putting the two of them in the awkward situations people find them.
That's only the start of the season. Before the 13 episodes are up, a paternity test yields a startling result, not in the search for Archer's father, but in the possibility that Archer is a father. The results of that particular test ends up with a new regular occurring character in baby Seamus Sterling Magoon-Archer. The Wee Baby Seamus makes several amusing appearances throughout the season and how Malory Archer (Jessica Walter) acts as a grandmother goes a long way in explaining why Archer is the way he is.
Another event in the season that has lasting affects involves Archer getting diagnosed with breast cancer. This happens later in the season, but it is a major plot point for a couple of episodes. Meanwhile, we get a bit of a history lesson on three of the main characters. We not only learn how Lana (Aisha Tyler) is recruited to join ISIS, but we also see Woodhouse's past and how he became Archer's butler. In another odd twist, we find out that one of the main characters is actually from a wealthy family ... and owns a pet ocelot.
As for the Blu-ray's special features, one small featurette pokes fun at one of the extras on the Season One release. In the previous installment, an alternative Pilot episode featured a velociraptor in the place of Archer. This time around, a behind-the-music style featurette shows what happened to Archersaurus after that not-so-well-liked extra. In the same vein as last season's alternate Pilot episode, one special feature shows what Archer's life would be like if he came out of his breast cancer surgery looking like Nikolai Jakov's (Peter Newman) assistant.
Another extra has Archer answering questions posed by fans, while a third has him sending out a special message to an over-seas military troupe filled with fans of the show. This release also features a Comic-Con panel with most of the cast.
Archer: The Complete Season Two is a great example of a show's creators knowing what the fans like and giving it to them in spades. The absurdity of the spy-spoof world setup in the first season is only expanded upon here and the crazier storylines the series is coming up with fits perfectly with the show's unique style. This, combined with the crisp lines from the high definition media means that Archer: Season 2 is not only great for any existing fans, but the Blu-ray version means you will get the best picture quality this show has to offer.
