Wow, the end of an era. Even as I write this, I find myself a bit teary-eyed that I am reviewing Chuck: The Complete Fifth and Final Season. While the series wraps up nicely, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I am very sad to see it go.

Season 5 picks up with Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) suddenly finding themselves enormously wealthy after Volkhoff and his daughter bestow them with their wealth when they madk their great escape, while Morgan (Joshua Gomez) has been implanted with the Intersect after casually slipping on a pair of seemingly harmless sunglasses. Chuck and Sarah decide to buy the Buy More and use Castle as the secret base for their new company, Carmichael Industries, private spies for hire.

This pits Carmichael Industries against the Verbanski Corp, a high-powered security company run by John Casey's (Adam Baldwin) former love interest and nemesis, Gertrude Verbanski (Carrie-Ann Moss, The Matrix), who shows up a few times over the season to wreak havoc and passion in Casey's life.

So Morgan's got the Intersect and he can finally be in the spy club, but unfortunately, the version he got is corrupted and not only deletes parts of one's memory, but in Morgan's case, turns him into a colossal assclown. Super-slick Morgan with frosted tips is a sight to behold.

Once Morgan gets the bad Intersect out of his head, the team realizes they are being manipulated by Decker (Richard Burgi), a CIA agent who suggests one of Chuck's old enemies is the one actually pulling all of the strings. It seems everyone is after what remains of the Intersect project - especially a man named Quinn (Angus MacFayden). As the team pursues Quinn, Sarah is forced to use the Intersect in order to rescue Chuck and even Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin), but, unfortunately, the Intersect proves to be even more unstable in Sarah than it was in Morgan; she ends up in Quinn's clutches and, with his knowledge of how the Intersect works, he turns Sarah into a weapon to use against Chuck. Can their relationship survive this latest blow, and more importantly, can Chuck?

Chuck: The Complete Fifth and Final Season delivers the same epic blend of comedy, drama, action and romance that it always has and it goes out with a bang. While I was so sad to see the show come to an end, I was pleased that they actually had time to properly wrap up the show. I must admit that I was teary during most of the special features, although they are great and do the final season justice. They include featurettes on the show's fans and how they saved it from cancellation; a behind-the-scenes with the cast on the final episode; one on the fantastic musical score of the show and Tim Jones, the man who makes it happen; featurettes on the beginning, through the years and the predicted future of Chuck; two Buy More commercials; Declassified (deleted) Scenes on select episodes; a gag reel; commentary on the final two episodes; an extended version of the series finale; and finally, a time-lapse teardown of the set.

Sadly, you can see that Chuck's budget was cut in some of the CG, but the show still looks sweet on Blu-ray most of the time. They pulled out all the stops this season, as well, with all of the fan service guest appearances. Bo Derek as herself, Cheryl Ladd as Sarah's mom, Carrie-Ann Moss as Gertrude Verbanski, Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), Jeff Fahey and Mark Pelligrino (both of Lost) as bad guys, plus a bunch more. I also really enjoyed seeing a different side to Jeff and finally getting to see Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) get a little bit involved in the spy game and even save the day. All hail Jeffster!

Overall, Chuck: The Complete Fifth and Final Season is a fitting end to a great series that never failed to deliver awesome geek humor. I will miss the entire cast, but here's to hoping they'll pop up in other shows very soon.
