CatDog is one of quite a few odd Nickelodeon cartoons from the late 90’s. I’ve already reviewed the first three collections that came out, so here is the 4th collection, CatDog: Season 2 - Part 2. Overall, these guys haven’t changed a bit. They’re still as zany as ever with very colorful friends, enemies, and frenemies.

Season 2 - Part 2 opens with CatDog learning to surf when Dog drags Cat to the beach. Cat finds out that there are hot chicks there for the waves, so he wants to impress. Given that we all know Cat is deathly afraid of water though, it makes surfing quite difficult. He’s going to have to overcome his fears to be popular with the ladies. There are actually a few episodes that deal with love. In one, Cat and Dog both fall in love with the same woman. She is absolutely perfect for the both of them, but she leaves the park before they can get her number. They both make plans secretly to find her, but which will win her affections? In another episode, CatDog decides to find Winslow’s soul mate so he will spend his life with her and stop annoying them. I didn’t think it was possible to find someone more annoying than Winslow, but CatDog are good at managing the impossible! Is it really a good idea to go from one annoying rodent to two annoying rodents though?

As usual, there are a lot of wacky episodes that deal with random things. In one, Cat and Dog get mad at each other and decide that they wish they were separated. You’d think they would have learned by now that they really do need each other. This time, it was a weird shared musical dream that made them realize the truth. When Dog takes a job as a sheep dog herder for Maggie MacDougall, he finds his calling in life and adopts a Scottish accent. Later on, CatDog gets sent to the dog pound because Dog peed on the dog catcher’s leg. They are thrown in the same cell with the Greasers. Since there are no other dogs in there, Rancid uses them to compete in the Annual Nearburg versus Farburg Dogathelon. Rancid tells them if they win, they’ll get out early. The competition is beyond giant though, even compared to Cliff! Rancid Rabbit is in several episodes. The city wants to build a new freeway to downtown, right though CatDog’s home. CatDog has to convince the mayor, Rancid Rabbit, that their home is really a historical landmark so it can’t be torn down. CatDog starts a business eating homework, for a fee. It all becomes real for Dog though when Mayor Rancid wants to use their services! The season finale is called "A Very CatDog Christmas." I really like it. In it, CatDog manages to get Christmas cancelled forever! That’s going to be a very difficult thing to fix, but just maybe working together they can do it.

CatDog: Season 2 – Part 2 fits in perfectly with the rest of the seasons. If you like them, then you most definitely need it to continue your collection. My only complaint is that the sound is much quieter on Episode 8 than on the rest. I had to really increase the volume to hear it, but as soon as Episode 9 started, I had to turn it back down quickly because it was so loud. Just keep that in mind though and you will be fine. CatDog: Season 2 – Part 2 is a wacky cartoon suitable for all ages.
