Adventure Time: Jake Vs. Me-Mow! offers some episodes that you can find on other Adventure Time DVD offerings. For example, there are several episodes from the Season 1 DVD that are repeated here. But there are also episodes from Season 2 and 3, making this a pretty scattered collection of episodes.

The title of this DVD refers to to the Season 3 episode of the same title included on the DVD. It’s a pretty awesome episode, more than worthy of headlining the box. You might think from the cover that Jake the dog simply fights a maniacal cat of some sort, but in classic Adventure Time style, you just cannot predict where this one will go. An assassination plot, poison and plotting, and Jake being forced into a horrible position where he has to defy his core beliefs and morals: oh yes, it’s all here. A few other episodes included on this disc are The Jiggler, Ocean of Fear, Videomakers, and Dad’s Dungeon.

Scattered collections of episodes seem to be the main way Adventure Time is being released. This Adventure Time wiki can help you figure out which episodes are on which DVD releases. Of course, if you don’t want to support this practice, the only sequential full season collection out on DVD right now is Season 1. It does become a little tiresome to keep saying this about DVD collections, especially when it comes to young adult and children’s series. No, Adventure Time is not the most linear show, and most episodes stand on their own. There are, however, quite a few running themes that become less potent when you are dropped off in the middle of them. For example, if you miss the episode where Finn explains that he swallowed an autotune machine, well, you might just think Finn gets autotuned occasionally. It’s still fun, but you’ll miss out on that bit of background that makes it work so well as a running gag. Can you watch the show out of sequence? Sure, but the experience is much better when it’s in the season order.

A big bonus with this DVD is the inclusion of the magnificent Finn hat. Actually, that might be the reason a lot of people will buy it. And Cartoon Network knows its audience here. The hat is actually adult sized. That’s right, a hat that could have easily been sized to fit a 7 year old because some marketing guy in a suit said so has actually been made to fit your oversized, old person head. Well, perhaps not all old persons can wear this hat, but you will probably be able to fit it on, even if you don’t manage to fasten the strap under the chin.

There's one special feature on this DVD called "Little Did You Know." It's not much to speak of, just a collection of facts about 6 of the characters and creatures from the show. If a Finn hat is just what you’ve been craving, and you don’t mind the random episodes thrown together to make a DVD, Jake Vs. Me-Mow is a fine collection. Given that you get 16 episodes from Seasons 1, 2, and 3, it’s not bad in terms of quantity for your value. If you’d rather not support the rather confusing practice of releasing DVDs this way, however, you’ll be happy to know that you can buy it elsewhere, and of course there are plenty of patterns on the internet if you’d like to be crafty and make your own.
