Lionsgate presents a three-disc series entitled Bible Stories from the New Testament, beginning with the story of Herod the Great, and includes specials about the life and death of Jesus Christ and the birth of Christianity. This History Channel Series includes the following nine specials:

• "Lost Worlds – Herod the Great" reveals the unyielding political power possessed by this homicidal dictator of Rome. He was a visionary builder with innovative architecture from Masada to Caesarea to Herodium to Jerusalem where he built the Temple Mount that was the largest structure on earth.

• "Mysteries of the Bible – Mary of Nazareth" gives further knowledge of the customs and times of marriage in a typical Hebrew family and follows the plight of the Holy Family as they circumvent Herod's "slaughter of the innocents" to escape the death of their son, Jesus. It demonstrates her selfless dedication to follow the instructions of God and dedicate her life to the ministry of her son, Jesus.

• "Time Machine – Joseph: The Silent Saint" gives a description of his occupation and relationship with his adopted son, Jesus. It focuses on his divine visions and life-long protection of God's child and his wife, Mary. It is no wonder that Joseph is revered as the saint of the family.

• "Biography – Jesus: His Life" presents new insights on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. The biography presents some of his family life together with his Earthly mission to proclaim God's message and himself as the Messiah, and to face the eventual result of his proclamation: his death, resurrection, and the birth of Christianity. History, tradition, and faith together weave this extraordinary story in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

• "Biography – Mary Magdalene" unveils the misrepresentation of her profession as a prostitute, and focuses on her apostolic relationship to the Master, Jesus Christ. Mary Magdalene was a prophet and leader in the early Christian church.

• "Biography – Peter" shows how Jesus chose zealous Peter to be the "rock" on which he would build his Church, his simplistic life, and his undying devotion, dedication and love of Jesus. Peter was chosen to be head of the apostles and turned his house into a ministry.

• "Biography – Pontius Pilate" is known as the "ultimate villain" and his biography demonstrates how this Roman governor washes his hands of the judgment of Jesus Christ as the King of the Jews and passes this final decision to the outcry of the people. After the brutal punishment and death of Jesus, Pilate returned home to Rome in disgrace and shame.

• "Mysteries of the Bible – Judas" will always be known as the person who betrayed Jesus to the Roman soldiers and Jewish priests with the kiss of death as he approached his Master. It is believed that his name is synonymous with the Jewish people and represents a division between Jews and Christ.

• "Mysteries of the Bible – Paul the Apostle" shows how this extraordinary apostle had a blinding vision that drastically changed his life. Once a vicious persecutor of Christians, he turns his life over to Jesus and carries the Gospel forth to establish Christianity as the religion of the Roman Empire.

Bible Stories from the New Testament does not have any special features. However, they are very informative and feature both historical and Biblical authorities that offer in-depth evidence of the times, people and events surrounding the stories of the New Testament. This is great family entertainment and a splendid addition to any DVD library, especially for the Easter Season. However, as a caution to parents, there is much background artwork depicting nudity that might not be appropriate for younger viewers.
