The first season of The Originals was extremely good. Basically, it was a continual battle for the French Quarter of New Orleans between the witches, werewolves, and vampires. The werewolves, led by Francesca Correa (Peta Sergeant), won the battle for the Quarter leaving a very enraged Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in the wake. Unfortunately for him, the moonlight rings that the werewolves are using to control their transformations are draining his strength since they were made with his blood. Klaus just wants to make the Quarter his again so it is safe for his family. Haley (Phoebe Tonkin) isn’t doing much better than Klaus. Now a hybrid like Klaus, she’s just trying to figure out what to do after the loss of her daughter, Hope. Of course, if you watched last season you’ll know that the baby didn’t actually die. Klaus and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) gave her to Rebekah (Claire Holt) and had a witch put a powerful cloaking spell on them so that no one could find them. Rebekah gets to have what she always wanted, a child to raise, at least until Klaus and Elijah can make the Quarter safe for Hope to live in. That is going to be a difficult task with their father and mother, Mikael (Sebastian Roch) and Esther (Natalie Dreyfuss), back in the world of the living. Klaus is also going to be surprised to learn about his real father, Ansel (Lloyd Owen) this season.

Over in the vampire camp, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) is still the leader. He’s trying desperately to rebuild and turn more vampires to replace all that were lost, but it’s a long process. Josh (Steven Krueger) is still alive and helping him. I do like Josh and I want him to end up happy! Marcel is going to have a whole lot to deal with this season. He’s got to be the logical and cool head to try and broker peace between everyone. Normally, this would be the role that Elijah plays. Elijah gladly does this in the beginning, but after a run-in with his mother, Elijah has been damaged mentally more that anyone knows. Uncontrolled Elijah is extremely dangerous as he’s so calm, plotting, and methodical whether he’s good or evil. Rebekah’s life will change drastically this season. She starts off as a temporary mother to Hope, but by the end of the season, she’s a completely different person!

Over in the werewolf camp, Haley is going to need to work hard to try and get her pack back. Francesca is killed early on, leaving Esther controlling the werewolves. Esther is a witch but she’s got control of the werewolves because she makes them the moonlight rings. They don’t want to go back to not having control of their powers. Haley learns from Jackson (Nathan Parsons) about an ancient ritual that could solve all of their problems, but she’s got to make a huge decision that will affect the rest of her life. Like everyone else, the werewolves have their own secrets that are going to come to light. Aiden (Colin Woodell) has a lot to deal with as well. He’s basically a second in command to Jackson, which isn’t the trouble. Aiden’s problem is that he’s in love... with a vampire.

Over on the witch’s side, you’ve got the Mikaelson’s. Yes, I realize that they have been on the vampire side in the past, but since Esther brought Kol (Daniel Sharman) and Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) into the body of two witches (Kaleb and Vincent), they now have the magical powers that they did before they were turned into vampires. Esther wants all of her children, Klaus included, to volunteer to die so she can bring them back to a human (or werewolf for Klaus) body. This is a huge decision for all of them. Would you want to give up being some of the most powerful (and most feared) creatures on the earth? Plus, can they really trust their mother, who isn’t the world’s most sane person? Davina (Danielle Campbell) is also a witch who told the coven to "shove it" and has gone back to high school (supposedly, but we never actually see her go to school). She’s still got Mikael tied to her and locked up in the attic. She wants to break the sire line to her friends before she lets Mikael kill Klaus, but these are dangerous men she’s playing with. I must admit that I like the witch version of Kol. He turns out to be a lot better (at times) than I thought he would be.

The Originals: The Complete Second Season comes as a Blu-ray set with an Ultraviolet code. I love having things on Blu-ray, because while streaming shows is easy and quick, you just don’t get the quality that you do on Blu-ray. The sound and picture quality are simply amazing. On the Blu-ray set are several special features as well. Personally, I enjoyed the Gag Reel. It looks like these people have a great time filming the show! I like having the Comic-Con panel as well. It would be nice to get to be there in person to see them, but getting to see it is the second best thing.

The Originals: Season Two is all about trying to make the Quarter safe (still) and a whole lot of body jumping. It can be difficult to keep up with who is who at times. It’s also about secrets. The Mikaelson’s have a whole lot of family secrets and some of them, like the existence of baby Hope, really shouldn’t be brought to life. Others, like what really happened to their oldest sister Freya (Riley Voelkel) and information about their Aunt Dahlia (Claudia Black), probably should have been revealed years before. Finally, it’s about family and loyalty. The Originals boils down to family and family ties. Who and what do you fight for? If you want to see the new battles, which trust me you do, check out The Originals: The Complete Second Season today!
