Turok has been one of those licenses that have faded in and out of the video game world, but even if it hasn't had the most glamorous history, it is still about time for a movie, and the animated feature, Turok: Son of Stone, is just that movie.

While out on a relaxing day, Turok and his companions are attacked by a rival tribe and when Turok goes into a berserker rage, he not only finishes off the enemy fighters, but he also ends up hurting his brother, Koba. As punishment, Turok is banished to live in the wild. Fast forward to 20 years later; Koba is now Chief and the tribe that caused Turok to be exiled in the first place is on their way to attack again.

When Turok learns of the attack, but returns to find his village plundered and his brother killed, the resulting chase leaves Turok, the few remaining survivors (his nephew and sister-in-law), and the last member of the enemy tribe, into an area known as the Lost Land. There, they discover dinosaurs and an early separated branch of their own tribe. Meanwhile, their enemy gains control over a clan of cave dwellers and he is bent on taking out Turok once and for all.

As far as game-to-movie adaptations, this film is okay. A lot of the details are lost and it comes down to a movie about a Native American fighter who attacks dinosaurs and cave dwellers, whereas the games actually have more modern and magical weapons. In the end, this is a film for people who have followed the Turok games since the beginning and just want another part of the mythos.
