On a trip to a grocery store with Vanessa, Barry learns that bottled honey is sold to humans and through some slick investigation of his own, he finds that companies are farming bees and stealing their honey! He decides to sue the human race for their honey theft. Battling the very large and Southern attorney, Layton T. Montgomery (John Goodman), Barry brings many witnesses to the stand to defend their theft of bee culture, including Sting and Ray Liotta, who has his own honey company. After Adam loses his cool in court and stings Montgomery on the rear, Judge Bumbleton (Oprah Winfrey) rules in favor of Barry and the excess honey is returned to the bees, who finally go on vacation with the overflow of extra honey. Have any idea what happens to the world's population of flowers and plants when the bees go on hiatus? Everything dies! So now Barry is to blame for the world's woes when all he was trying to do was help. It's up to him to go to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and get some pollen to save the day!
This movie is pretty damn hysterical and is chock full of brilliant voice performances. Aside from those I have already mentioned, you've also got Kathy Bates and Barry Levinson as Barry's parents, Larry King as Bee Larry King, Larry Miller, Rip Torn and Megan Mullaly (Will and Grace). The funniest of all, however, has got to be the completely insane Ray Liotta. Oh, that laugh!
The cool thing about Bee Movie is the fact that it will appeal to kids of all ages because there are plenty of adult-oriented jokes, along with stuff kids will laugh at too. This special 2-disc edition really tries to reach out to the younger set by including special features like trivia for kids and bee knowledge, plus a music video, and a feature designed to let viewers get to know Barry better. On the second disc, you'll find all sorts of stuff to appeal to Seinfeld fans, such as commentary, a cast featurette, live action trailers, the regular stuff like deleted scenes and alternate endings and 16 really wacky TV juniors, which show Jerry pitching different ideas about the movie. If you are the nerdy sort, you'll really dig watching the Tech of Bee Movie because it explains the amazing technical aspects of creating Bee Movie, such as how many rendering hours went into it and how Dreamworks has been upping the bar in a major way since Shrek. I found it pretty cool that Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg actually credits Halo with getting Jerry on board since Jerry couldn't leave his home in NY to work on the film. Jeffrey popped in Halo and showed him all about working remotely, and voila! - we have Bee Movie.
When it comes down to brass tacks, Bee Movie is really a movie with an environmental message. Bees are our friends and without them, the human race is lost. But this great message is wrapped in a delightfully clever and funny tale about a bee aiming to do something different. Fans of Jerry will love this movie and even if you aren't his biggest fan, you can't deny that this movie is really good. With a stellar cast of voice actors and a great script, Bee Movie is one can't miss film.
