So, if you're into hip-hop or you're a red-blooded American (or, for that matter, foreign) male (or female) who enjoys the female form and has access to the Internet, you probably have heard of Tila Tequila. She's an ultra sexy-cute Asian "shorty" who is a hip-hop and pop singer - songwriter - model. She is, as they say, "Internet Famous." Unsurprisingly, many men - and women, for that matter - have lusted after her. What may have been surprising to them, however, is that she, herself, was looking for love. What was surprising to them is that they all could be candidates.

You see, although Tila Tequila had not made it public before this show, she is a bisexual. She was looking for a single person to share her affection, but that person could just as easily be a woman as a man. This little bit of information, however, was not shared with those who wanted to try for their Shot at Love with Tila Tequila; the boys assumed she was straight and the girls assumed she was a lesbian. Tila meets the boys first, then, after they leave, she meets the girls. On the second day, there's a huge pool party where she reveals that she is a bisexual. The guys are shocked and visibly confused (and possibly aroused), but the girls primarily see it as a betrayal, at first. It was obvious that several of the girls had hoped to make it through the entire experience without having to be around any men at all, and definitely didn't expect to be competing for any of Tila's affections with them.

One thing that really stood out in this "Survivor: The Dating Game" reality show was the frequency of eliminations. On the very first show, five of the guys and then five of the girls are eliminated. In a reality show that starts with thirty-two contestants, ten leave before they move in and, by the end of the second show, only 17 contestants remain. In addition to contestants leaving because they are sent home, a couple of contestants "show themselves out," finding themselves unable to handle the highly stressful emotional turmoil that takes place in the house.

And, speaking of the house... I would be remiss if I didn't mention the house that A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila takes place in. She refers to it as her house several times, but I can't seem to verify that anywhere online. Regardless, if you're into the HGTV sort of thing, the house itself is worth the price of admission here, with an astoundingly detailed carved wood front door, a grandiose central stair in pink and its very own strip club and hidden dungeon rooms. Granted, the glass vibe chandelier may have been a bit much.

If you look closely and pay attention, you might have some interesting observations on the differences between men and women, the nature of jealousy and how quickly humans can make emotional bonds with others. What you won't see is Tila Tequila testing the candidates in what she finds most important and ending up with the love of her life. In one of the earlier episodes, Tila flips out completely when one of the girls accidentally steps on and kills a lizard. Later, there is a "gross food eating contest" a la Fear Factor where she requires the contestants to consume eyes, "because they only have eyes for her" and a heart, because they're after hers. This trial feels less like Tila trying to find her true love and more like her watching Survivor from ten feet away, which looked to be about how close she got to that disgusting food, by the way... if that.

While emotions ran high and several of the contestants seemed overly attached, although to what seems like an unwarranted (read "psycho") degree, Tila never seemed to be as invested as several of the contestants. The final two contestants did seem to be the best matches for Tila (and, hey... she's bisexual, so why wasn't that the end of the show?), and there was a final winner, but, as there is a sequel: A Shot at Love II with Tila Tequila, it's safe to say that the winner doesn't get to live happily-ever-after... well, not with Tila, anyway.

So, in the end, this is just another strange reality show cooked up by the MTV machine. If you like that sort of thing, here it is. If you're looking for hot bodies of either gender along with a couple that could go either way, it's in there. If you were banking on the "Uncensored" part, well, it's there, but only in the special features. However, I must admit that some of the DVD's special features do show off some of the contestants' special features. In the end, this is a Survivor meets Fear Factor meets hip-hop nasticity and gets busy on-stage. Just think of it as Jerry Springer: The Dating Show.
