Sabrina The Teenage Witch: The Fourth Season starts off with what promises to be Sabrina's (Melissa Joan Hart) best school year yet. Not only is she going to be a senior, but Libby (her high school antagonist in previous seasons) has moved away and her best friend, Valerie, is going to be moving in for the school year since her family has decided to live in the Great White North. Plus, Assistant Principle Kraft's name is being removed from his office door (could he be out of the picture as well?). To top things off, Sabrina's father has reappeared and brought up the possibility of Sabrina moving in with him in the Eiffel Tower (yes, in it), but because of the promising school year, she turns him down.

Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving. Valerie revokes the roommate request and decides to stay in Alaska with her family, it turns out Kraft is now a full blown principal and an old friend of Harvey's (Nate Richert) has moved back in town, so he isn't paying as much attention to Sabrina as he used to. So the teenage witch suddenly believes that living with her dad might be a good idea after all. But life in Paris isn't all it's cracked up to be. She finds that she misses her friends and aunts, but when she checks up on them, they appear to be getting along without her, but it's all a matter of bad timing because we the viewers see just how much everyone else wishes she would show back up. Thanks to a little manipulation by everyone's favorite warmonger turned housecat, a civil war causes Sabrina's dad to go away on business and allows Sabrina to sneak back into her old life as if nothing happened.

This year, Sabrina faces a few challenges. First off, the Witches Council has charged her with teaching another young witch how to control her magic. Dreama (China Jesusita Shavers) seems to be a bad luck magnet because every time Sabrina gets near her, some bit of chaos occurs that leaves Sabrina much worse for wear. Dreama (an obvious replacement for Valerie) and Sabrina become quick friends though, and having yet another person (besides her Aunts) to talk to about magic helps to make her life just a little bit easier. Another reoccurring issue in Season Four is the fact that Harvey's old friend, Brad (Jon Huertas), apparently descends from a family of Witch Hunters. While he doesn't know this, what it means is he tends to notice magic occurring around him much more than most people. There are several times when Brad will see Sabrina's sparkly fingers, or notice when there are more than one of her, all things that most normal people seem to be oblivious to. Unfortunately for Sabrina, Dreama and the rest of the Spellman's, if he ever says to one of them "I think you are a witch," they will be turned into a mouse on the spot.

Also, there are a couple of career changes in this season. Not only does Zelda (Beth Broderick) get to tack on an M.D. to her ever-growing list of suffixes, but Hilda (Caroline Rhea) takes over a clock shop and Sabrina gets a job at a college coffee shop with a really cute manager. Needless to say, a love triangle forms between this manager, Josh (David Lascher), Sabrina and Harvey that is prevalent throughout the whole season and leads up to its cliffhanger where Sabrina must choose between the two of them.

As people who are familiar with Sabrina The Teenage Witch would expect, this season is full of really bad puns where common sayings show up as literal sicknesses to the various witches in the show. Sabrina will go green with envy and have to travel to the Jealous Sea. She will also get her first charge card and start to get everything she wants. Soon, she becomes spoiled rotten (literally) until she can realize what real value is. And, of course, Sabrina becomes heartless during Valentine's Day when two mortals (Harvey and Josh) are vying for her love. Like I said, if you've watched enough episodes of this show, this is the sort of thing you've come to expect, and at least each pun comes with a nice life lesson.

This season is really only good for people who are already familiar with the series. As it is Sabrina's last year in high school, she will have to decide on a college, but she becomes split over the decision (literally) when she tries to please everyone at once. This is also the last season to originally air on ABC (the last three were on The WB).
