Martin Lawrence's new comedy College Road Trip is being released on July 15th. But trust me, you really don't need to rush right out and get it. Normally I like Martin Lawrence and I think that Raven-Symone is a wonderful actress, but this movie is just plain awful.

College Road Trip is all about Police Chief James Porter (Martin Lawrence) and his daughter Melanie (Raven-Symone). Melanie is one of those girls that gets perfect grades and stays out of trouble. You know, the kind of kid that parents just love to have, but that doesn't mean the parent really knows everything that is going on with them. In this case, even though James thinks he is his daughter's best friend and knows everything about her, it turns out that he really just doesn't know anything.

Melanie has just graduated from high school, and James has determined that she's going to college at the nearest school, Northwestern. It's only 40 minutes away from home, so he can "make sure she's safe". Melanie, of course, has her own ideas on where she wants to go to college. She has chosen Georgetown (which is 7 hours away), if she can get in. When she gets an interview at Georgetown and has to be there in 3 days, James decides that instead of letting her go with her friends on the girls only road trip, he should just take her on the road trip himself. But, of course, there's going to be many problems on the way.

There are also a lot of extra features on the DVD if you make it through the movie and still want to see more. Most of the deleted scenes are actually very funny, funnier than the movie is. There are also alternate openings and endings, a gag reel, a music video, audio commentaries, and more. Honestly though, the movie was just so bad that by the time we were done with it, we had to take a break before exploring the extra features.

The main problem with College Road Trip was the extreme overacting. Yes, it's supposed to be a comedy, but it's one of those comedies that is so overdone that instead of laughing, you just cringe instead. The only good thing about the movie was Melanie's little brother Trey (Eshaya Draper) and his pet pig, Albert. They were the one saving grace. Albert is just plain adorable and hilarious at the same time. Trey was so deadpan serious on everything that it was also comical.

My advice, unless you just love very stupid comedy, avoid College Road Trip at all costs.
