First off, I have to say, these episodes are soooo 80's. Everything from the hairstyles to clothing just shows exactly when this series was made. A good example would be the episode "Romancing Miss Stone." Not only is the name a reference to the 1984 movie, but Alvin's teacher, whom both he and Dave fall for, is a prime example of 80's fashion.
Other favorite episodes include "Every Chipmunk Tells a Story" where Dave walks in to find his piano in pieces and full of a sticky substance. The episode has Dave questioning each of the kids, and getting a slightly different story out of each one. Of course, Dave must piece together the different perspectives in order to figure out exactly what happened.
In "A Horse of Course", Alvin convinces his brothers to buy a racing horse (because all the big stars do it), but when they find that their $25 has bought them a sorry mule, the trio must work to make him a winner, else the horse will end up at the glue factory. Of course, they must do this without Dave knowing.
"Alvin's Oldest Fan" is also a favorite because it teaches the swollen-headed chipmunk a good lesson since he runs a contest to go out on a date, and when his "oldest fan" turns out to be an elderly lady, he ditches her, but soon realizes he might have put her in danger. Of course, the three chipmunks run around the city trying to find out where his fan might have ended up, all the while thinking the worst has happened.
"New Improved Simon" also stands out in this collection since it has Simon crushing on a girl in their class, but he is afraid that she sees him as too much of a nerd. So of course, Alvin tries to change Simon's image several times in order to find one that the girl likes. In the end, they learn that not only is honesty the best policy, but it's always better to be yourself.
I could go on to summarize and rave each of the episodes on this collection, but it would just be better to grab the DVDs and watch them yourselves. Those of us who grew up on this chipmunk-wisdom know how valuable it can be, and should definitely look into getting this collection so that it can be passed on to the next generation. After all, where else can you learn to tell the truth, don't try and earn a quick buck, help out your friends and what to do in case of a fire, all with three little rodents singing squeaky covers to classic tunes?
