The zoo makes the difficult decision to send the animals to a wildlife preserve in Africa, but through the meddling of the penguins and some twists of fate, Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman find themselves as castaways on an island, which they'll soon discover is Madagascar. At first they think they've arrived at the San Diego Zoo, but they soon discover that things aren't going to be as easy as they first thought. They first encounter a crazy kingdom of lemurs, being led by King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen), who sounds an awful lot like Robin Williams, and his advisor Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer). But when his wild surroundings start to affect Alex and all he sees are steaks in the place of his friends, things get complicated. When King Julien and company decide that Alex must be banished to the dangerous side of the island with the other carnivores and the group of friends is separated, they have to decide what is more important - natural instincts or friendship.
This disc is packed with special features including a number of featurettes on the making-of Madagascar, as well as the cast and the tech behind the film. There's also a Dreamworks Jukebox with songs from all your favorite Dreamworks animated features like Shrek and Over the Hedge, plus animation bloopers which were a lot of fun to see. Probably the most fun special feature has got to be the animated short The Penguins in a Christmas Caper, which is just priceless. Madagascar on Blu-ray is the way to go. If you haven't added this animation to your collection yet, definitely go for the high def version. It looks and sounds spectacular.
