Cashmere Mafia: The Complete Series - it's sad to have to say that. A "complete" series that only lasted seven episodes, which is quite a shame. Cashmere Mafia follows the lives of four beautiful and successful women, friends since business school, as they compete in life and love. There's Mia Mason (Lucy Liu), a woman so driven to become the publisher of Barnstead Media that she sacrifices her fiance Jack (Tom Everett Scott) in the competition and process of getting there. Then there's Juliet Draper (Miranda Otto), COO of a successful hotel chain and resident ice queen. She juggles her high-powered career and her 15-year marriage with Davis (Peter Hermann), which doesn't always go smoothly, especially when she discovers that Davis is cheating with her "frienemy," Cilla Grey. Then there's Zoe Burden (Frances O'Connor), who works in mergers and acquisitions, but seems to spend more time thwarting her junior analyst from sabotaging her career and sleeping with the other managers. Finally, there's Caitlin Dowd, a VP at a posh makeup company, who finds herself falling for another woman, Alicia (Lourdes Benedicto), after a series of failed relationships with men. Quite a motley crew are they.

Together they are known as the Cashmere Mafia, a formidable group of women who are super-connected in the business world and can pick up the phone and call one another to get the answer to just about any question they may have. Well, business-related questions anyway. They get together frequently to support one another through the rocky roads of their careers and home lives. They go through a lot of ups and downs throughout these episodes and giving away too much wouldn't be fair to those who might want to check the show out. Let's just say that spouses and lovers aren't always what they seem and the women who appear to have it all sometimes don't.

Although the series didn't get renewed and only lasted a scant 7 episodes, what's there is really enjoyable. Everyone involved is quite talented and believable and watching these chicks in action is fun. The plotlines are well written, the sets are lovely and the characters are actually pretty likeable. While I can't really recommended a purchase since its only a few episodes, I'd definitely recommend renting this if you like Darren Star's other shows like Sex and the City and you can watch it in one day. The only caveat is that you'll really start to get into it, only to have it end abruptly and quite in the middle of a number of plotlines. Special features are there, but lean. Just a mini-featurette/interview (like 2 minutes) on each character with the woman who portrays her. Once again, really good stuff that just didn't last.
