Cristina and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) went on to the honeymoon in Hawaii, because there was no sense in wasting it. George (T.R. Knight) is devastated because he failed his exam and he is once again a lowly intern. His life continues to get complicated because he and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) want to be together after their one night stand, but his wife Callie (Sara Ramirez) is having a really hard time with the duties of being named Chief Resident, so he doesn't wanht to break things off just yet. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is having a really tough time dealing with not being named Chief Resident and she initially works hard to make things more difficult for Callie, but eventually ends up helping her.
Since the core group of people are now residents, they have their own set of interns to push around and its really funny to watch. George ends up appearing to be the star intern, that is, until everyone finds out his is a second-timer. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), another intern, shocks Meredith by telling her she is her half-sister, but Meredith rejects her and doesn't want to get to know her. Meredith spends a good part of the season dealing with both this relationship and also her relationship with Derek (Patrick Dempsey).
Addison Montgomery has left Seattle Grace for sunny California in a spin-off called Private Practice, but she pops back in for a brief stint, to make sure she made the right decision.
Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) comes back to give Cristina hell throughout the season and ends up developing a really close relationship with Callie, who is going through so much with the George/Callie/Izzie love triangle. Alex (Justin Chambers)'s ex-girlfreind Rebecca (Elizabeth Reaser) is back with a few surprises of her own, which manage to turn Alex's world upside-down. Most importantly, however, is the on again/off again relationship of Meredith and Derek (Patrick Dempsey). They can't live with each other and they can't live without. They go through a lot, but eventually, after working closely together on some clinical trials, they find that they are better together than apart.
There's plenty more that happens in this comedy/drama series that really does seem to have it all, but its too much to write about here. A diverse cast and great writing make this a really well-rounded show and the Blu-ray contains not only the great features that appeared on the DVD version such as outtakes, commentaries, featurettes and extended/unaired episodes, but it also has an amazing new option for Blu-ray - SeasonPlay. You can take your Blu-ray disc out of the player and put in other stuff, but when you pop it back in, it will remember where you last left off so you never have to wonder what episode or disc you had in last. Its a nice feature if you tend to watch a lot of DVDs or Blu-rays. If you are a Grey's Anatomy fan and collect the seasons, go ahead and make the jump to high def for the convenience of SeasonPlay. The only strange thing is the fact that there are still 4 Blu-ray discs in this set. You'd think they could have crammed it onto one or two Blu-rays since they hold so much more date. Who knows.
