I'm sure you've all seen or at least heard of the Anaconda movies by now. The first two went to theaters, with the second one getting a Razzie nomination for "worst remake or sequel." You'd think that would kill a movie series, but I guess not since they have made Anaconda 3 starring David Hasselhoff.

Like several of my latest reviews, Anaconda 3 starts off in a super-secret research facility. This facility is working to use the healing properties of snakes to cure cancer and save lives. To do this, they have injected a normal anaconda with a serum that turned it into a 60+ foot super anaconda. When you're dealing with two super massive, super powerful snakes you should probably make sure that your cage is very, very strong. Unfortunately, the company funding this facility will only give them money for upgrades after they produce some workable cure, so they're stuck with cages built to hold a normal anaconda.

You know at this point that the snakes are going to get out. Well when the financier Murdoch (John Rhys-Davies) shows up and causes some problems, the snakes are riled up enough to break out of their cages and wreak havoc on the facility. Murdoch escapes, as does the scientist working on the snakes, Amanda (Crystal Allen) and the liaison between Murdoch and the scientists, Pinkus (Ryan McCluskey). Pinkus calls in a special team on Murdoch's orders to hunt down the snakes. The head of that team is Hammett (David Hasselhoff). Hammett's team is made up of professional snake hunters, but even they don't stand much of a chance against these snakes.

I'm really not sure why the professionals would think that they could catch a 60+ foot anaconda on foot. Given its size, the snake is very fast! I was reminded of Starship Troopers with the way the snakes used the pointed tip of their tails just like the bugs used their claws. The serum that the snakes were injected with obviously gave them more than just super size and strength. Will they be able to destroy all the snakes before they make it to the nearby town and wipe out the entire population? Well you'll just have to watch it and see.

I was impressed with our enjoyment of Anaconda 3. I just wanted to watch it to see David Hasselhoff get eaten by a giant snake (no, I'm not telling you if I did get my wish or not). But the rest of the movie wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. The acting was decent overall. The plot left a lot to be desired at times, but for a made for TV movie, it was about par. If you want to see a cheesy sci-fi with David Hasselhoff, you'll love this movie. Catch it on TV though. I can't really say I recommend buying it. There are no special features to make you want to see it on DVD instead of TV, and the commercial breaks give you time to laugh at it all. Also, Anaconda 4 was filmed back to back with Anaconda 3, so keep an eye out for the sequel soon!
